Below is information provided by the Texas Department of Transportation and it details of the ongoing Highway 46 expansion and it impacts.
Important development on the River Road/Highway 46 project in Boerne starting Jan. 29 involving a long-term traffic shift.
This shift involves closing the center-left turn lane between City Park Road and Sharon Drive West to expedite the construction of a retaining wall on the north side of the road.
The contractor will be using the existing westbound lane as a work zone while westbound traffic is shifted onto the existing left-turn lane.
Throughout the duration of this months-long closure, westbound traffic will not be able to turn left onto City Park Road -- main reason being to minimize delays. Westbound traffic will need to take Charger Boulevard to access Boerne City Park, Cibolo Nature Center and Farm, and the Agricultural Museum along City Park Road.
This shift is not expected to have a significant impact on traffic flow since drivers are basically just diverted to the left but we’re keeping the same number of lanes.
